Child dies after being hit by auto while drinking water in Sreepur

Six-year-old Samia went to the market with her grandmother in Sreepur, Gazipur. The grandmother took her granddaughter with her to buy chili powder. But while sitting in the market, the child got thirsty for water. However, she was not given any more water to drink. Samia lost her life when she was run over by an autorickshaw while running to the other side of the road.

The accident took place on Friday night at Gosinga Bazar on the Barmi-Gosinga regional road in Gosinga Union of the upazila.

Samia is the daughter of Abdus Sattar of Karnapur village in Gosinga Union of the upazila. Their village is in Jamalpur district. Samia’s father Abdus Sattar has been living in the Gosinga area for two years.

Ali Newaz, a relative of the child, said that Samia’s grandmother went to nearby Gosinga Bazar to grind chili powder. She was selling chili powder at a shop on the side of the road. Suddenly, Samia felt thirsty. She ran to the other side of the road to drink water. At that time, an autorickshaw ran over her. The autorickshaw dragged the child for some distance. Local people rescued the child and she died on the way to the hospital.

Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Barik told Ajker Patrika that police were sent to the spot after receiving information about the death of a child who was run over by an autorickshaw. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received from his relatives in this regard.
